In the southern part of Poland, 60km from Krakow, near the town Oswiecim is located the Auschwitz Museum, which is listed as a UNESCO cultural heritage site. The biggest Concentration Camp in the world existed during the Second World War. Over the course of the war approximately 1.5 million people were murdered and burned in the crematoriums of Auschwitz, most of them Jews.

Today the museum consists of two parts: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II Birkenau. On the territory of the first part there are the barracks where the prisoners lived, and the former administrative centre of the camp. Auschwitz I was not destroyed during or after the war. You can also see the crematorium and the personal belongings of prisoners. In Auschwitz II Birkenau you can clearly see the horrific conditions in which prisoners lived. The entire tour of the museum lasts approx. 3 hours. It's not advised to being children under 13 years to visit the museum.
